외골격(外骨格)은 동물체의 겉면에 있는, 몸을 보호하기 위하여 딱딱해진 구조를 말한다. 연체동물의 껍데기, 절지동물의 키틴질의 표층 따위가 있다.
영어 접두어 “Exo-“는 “바깥”을 뜻하는데, “Skeleton”은 “뼈대”를 뜻한다. 그래서, 이는 바깥쪽에 있는 뼈라는 뜻으로 외골격을 뜻한다.
