공생(共生)은 서로 도우며 함께 사는 것을 뜻하는데, 특히 생명 분야에서는 종류가 다른 생물이 같은 곳에서 살며 서로에게 이익을 주며 함께 사는 일을 의미한다. 악어와 악어새, 충매화와 곤충, 콩과 식물과 뿌리혹박테리아 따위가 있다.
이러한 공생을 영어로는 “Symbiosis”라고 한다.
