국내 최초의 검은 피부 모델이 등장했다. 모델로 등장한 이후, 한동안 방송가의 대세로 등극했던 모델, 한현민이다.
한현민 씨는 나이지리아인 아버지와 한국인 어머니 사이에서 태어났는데, 어린 시절에는 혼혈이라는 이유로 놀림을 받았다고 한다.
그럼에도 불구하고, 당당하게 모델로 자리하면서 꿈을 이루어 가고 있는 모습이 인상적인 청년이다.

This is 15-year-old Han Hyun-Min. His Mother is Korean and His father is Nigerian. He faced racism as a child from neighbors and friends’ mothers.
Hyum-min : At first, I didn’t like people’s stares. I wanted to look ordinary and didn’t want to stand out. But after starting work, I have come to enjoy the attention , built up a lot of confidence, and overcome a lot of my troubles.
Hyun-min posted his image on social media and attended auditions. He was spotted by an agent, who took a ‘gamble’.
Agent : In recent times, even if we wanted to work for a magazine, the manager would say explicitly that they don’t use ‘colored people’ or say they don’t use black kids.
Hyun-min hit the runway at more than 30 shows at Seoul Fashion Weeks. That’s an unusually high number for a novice.
His rise to fame fololows that of Ariana Miyamoto, Miss Japan 2015. She is half African-American. And Miss Japan 2016, Priyanka Yoshikawa is half Indian.
Han Hyun-min hopes to become a role model for mixed race children.
