특파원(特派員)은 특별한 임무를 위하여 파견된 사람을 뜻하는데, 특히 매체에서는 뉴스의 취재와 보도를 위하여 외국에 파견되어 있는 언론사 기자를 의미한다.
영어로 이러한 특파원(特派員)을 “Correspondent”이라고 한다.
